Linen in Lines.

This ready to wear piece was inspired by Forms in Space by Claire Falkenstein. I drew heavily from the colors, textures, and dynamic lines in the work of art. I sought to stay true to the essence of the original artwork while incorporating my personal aesthetic. I also drew inspiration from the era in which the artwork was created, which also aligns with my vision for a modern yet timeless garment.

This design attempts to emphasize strong lines along with asymmetry. The texture of the artwork influenced my choice of fabric. The fabric’s slubs and geometric texture aligns with the gauze texture in the mixed media piece of art. The idea of rhythm and contrast in the painting are translated into the drape and darts in the garment.

TECHNIQUES: This was developed using both draping and flat patterning techniques. Draping allowed for organic shaping and movement, while flat patterning ensured precision in structure.

MATERIALS: Made with linen and rayon blends material, buttons, and zippers
